Tips on How to Host a Successful Virtual Party this Christmas

How to Host a Successful Virtual Party | Unlike in the United States, Thanksgiving is not much of a big deal in the Philippines. So I was beyond thrilled when I received a ‘Friendsgiving’ invite from BPI to hold a little virtual get-together and e-numan session with friends of media.

I did not know what to expect from a ‘virtual party’ because most of my Zoom engagements the past few months have been pretty serious talks, seminars, and meetings. How can you make Zoom fun, anyway? But surprisingly, we had a blast!

Christmas is right around the corner and COVID-19 is still far from gone, so many of us will probably! have your Christmas and corporate parties virtually. If you are hosting or attending a party soon, here are some tips on how to make it fun, interactive, and festive, taking notes from the unforgettable BPI party we just attended:

Be fully prepared.

The first rule to a successful party is full preparation. Don’t be late and come prepared. Since this is uncharted territory for most of us, it is important to be ready one hour before the party with your technical crew to check on last-minute technicalities, internet connection, and sound checks. Start on time. There’s no more traffic to blame for being late! (Even though, Filipinos as we are, there might still be fashionably latecomers!) For Corporate / Personal Christmas parties, Play Christmas music and get started with Jose Mari Chan hits to get the Christmas vibe going. Change your background to a Christmas theme.

Food and drink (and the logistics of it).

Hosting and preparing a virtual party is in some ways easier, and in some ways harder. One of the new challenges to virtual parties is how to handle food and drink, and how to serve them to guests logistically. While there won’t be a dinner buffet this year, you can still treat your guests with a sumptuous full-course meal–delivered to their homes. Get the guests’ addresses and deal with a food provider and courier to ensure everyone gets their meals before the party.

Games and entertainment

Hire the right lively host, entertainment, technical crew, and of course–the raffle draws. Let’s not forget the games and festivities–and bring in the fun and healthy competition! These are always great forms of entertainment to break the ice.

Bring in the karaoke!

A Filipino party is not complete without karaoke. So have virtual karaoke at the party. Get the professional singers to lead the singing and to help break the ice, choose songs that are crowd favorites and everyone can sing along (or quietly, on mute mode). Once the ball gets rolling, guests could then request their preferred songs.

Indeed, nothing may replace physical interaction, but our health safety is most important. Once you come prepared and well-organized, virtual parties are just as fun and unforgettable! May the festivities begin. I look forward to attending more of these events and catching up with old friends and meeting new faces. I hope you enjoyed these great tips on How to Host a Successful Virtual Party this Christmas Season and may we all have a Merry Christmas season, everyone!
